Wallet or exchange: who holds the keys
Custody is a choice, not a trick. Why a wallet you control is the quieter middle desk, and why an exchange account is still not a mask.

Запомнить
- An exchange holds the keys. A wallet you control holds them yourself.
- For a casino send, a wallet you control lets you read the network twice.
- Sending from an exchange can work. Mixed rails and shared accounts make KYC longer.
- Custody is not anonymity. Licensed desks still ask who you are.
- Do not borrow a wallet. Do not send from a friend’s account.
Two kinds of desk
An exchange account is custody you do not hold. You see a balance. They sign the transaction. A self-custody wallet is keys on your device or on paper. You sign. If you lose the phrase, there is no reset email. Neither desk is a mask.
Exchange custody
They hold the keys.
- Easier to buy coins in your own name
- Withdrawals can wait on their queue
- Their country list and KYC still apply
A wallet you control
You hold the keys.
- You pick the network on the send
- No ticket if you lose the phrase
- Still not anonymous at a licensed cashier
Why the middle desk is quieter
Buying on an exchange, withdrawing to a wallet you control, then paying the casino lets you stop and read. You see the fee. You see the chain. You are not rushing a send from a busy order ticket. Some people pay the casino from the exchange. That can credit. It can also mix a memo, a wrong chain, and a name that is not only yours.
Country lists sit on both desks
An exchange that serves you may still refuse a withdrawal to some regions. A casino that lists BTC may still refuse your country. Custody choice does not open a blocked market. We will not help anyone bypass a geo-block or a self-exclusion.
