Maximum bet rules: how a casino bonus gets voided
Most bonus terms set a maximum bet while the bonus is active, often around €5, sometimes €2 or a percentage of the bonus. If you bet above it, the casino can cancel the bonus, the winnings or both. Raising the stake to chase a feature and adding an ante are the most common causes.

Keep these
- The maximum bet in the bonus terms is a fixed limit, and going over it lets the casino cancel the bonus, the winnings or both.
- Raising the stake to chase a feature, or after a long run without wins, is the most common mistake on volatile slots.
- An ante bet raises the stake per spin, so a €4 spin with a 25% ante already costs €5.
- If a lot of wagering is left, a calmer slot under the maximum bet is the safer choice, and a volatile slot only makes sense near the end at the allowed stake.
- We show the maximum bet on each casino’s bonus card, next to the date we last read its terms.
The maximum bet in the terms
Most bonuses in the Vault set a maximum bet of around €5 while the bonus is active. Some set €2, and some set a percentage of the bonus. A €5 maximum bet in the terms is a firm rule. If you bet above it, the casino can cancel the bonus, the winnings or both. Being close to finishing the wagering does not change the casino’s decision.
How players exceed the maximum bet
Players raise the stake hoping to trigger the feature on Book of Dead or Gates of Olympus, or after a long losing run. A run of spins without wins is normal on volatile slots and is no reason to raise the stake. Book of Dead has no bonus buy in its original version, yet bonuses are still lost there through raised stakes.
The cap is on the whole stake of one round, not just the base bet. Some terms say so outright: BitStarz's bonus terms (clause 3.10, page marked 'Last updated: June 25th 2025') cap the bet at €5 while a bonus is active and add that the limit also covers double-up wagers after a round and bought bonus features ('bonus-buys'). At a table, a split, a double-down or a second seat adds to the same round's stake.
Ante bets count as stake
Gates of Olympus and Sweet Bonanza offer an ante bet at some casinos. The ante raises the stake per spin. If the terms cap the bet, the ante can take you over the limit even though the bet selector has not moved. Check both the bonus terms and the game’s info panel, and if they disagree, the bonus terms decide.
How to stay within the rule
Stay under the stated maximum bet. If a lot of wagering is left, a calmer slot such as Starburst is the better choice, and our games guide lists more. If you want to switch to a volatile slot such as Gates of Olympus or Book of Dead, wait until little wagering is left and stay within the allowed stake. A volatile slot near the end is an option, not a reason to raise the stake.
Maximum bet and Root Score
Root Score already accounts for time to clear and cashout limits. The maximum bet is a risk of losing the bonus, so we show it on the card instead of including it in the score. The card also shows the date we last read the terms. If the casino changes the limit, the older card counts as unconfirmed.
FAQ
What is a maximum bet with a casino bonus?
It is the highest stake per spin or per round that the terms allow while a bonus is active. The limit is usually written as a euro amount, sometimes as a percentage of the bonus. It applies until the wagering is finished or the bonus is removed, and it includes extras such as an ante bet.
What happens if I bet more than allowed?
The casino can cancel the bonus, the winnings from it, or both. Many terms allow this even after a single spin above the limit. Being close to finishing the wagering does not change the outcome, so it is worth checking your stake before every session while the bonus is active.
Does an ante bet count toward the maximum bet?
Yes. An ante raises the amount you stake on every spin, so it counts toward the limit. With a €5 maximum bet, a €4 spin plus a 25% ante already costs €5, and one step higher breaks the rule even though the bet selector looks unchanged.
How high is the maximum bet usually?
In the Vault it is often around €5 while the bonus is active. Some casinos set €2, and others set a percentage of the bonus amount. The exact figure is in each casino’s bonus terms, and we show it on the bonus card next to the date we last read those terms.
Does a bonus buy count toward the maximum bet?
It can. The buy price is a stake, and some terms name it directly (BitStarz clause 3.10). If the buy costs more than the cap, it breaks the rule even when the base bet is below it.
