New Gambling Commission figures put slots at the centre of Britain’s online casino market. The totals describe operator yield, not players’ winnings.

Slots drive the online casino total

Britain’s online casino sector generated £5.7 billion in gross gambling yield (GGY) between April 2025 and March 2026, with £4.8 billion coming from slots. The Gambling Commission published the annual figures on 17 September 2026.

That puts slots at roughly 84% of online casino yield, calculated from the report’s rounded totals. It is a measure of the product’s commercial weight, rather than how many people play it.

The wider market

Across online casino, betting and bingo, GGY reached £8.3 billion, up 6.9% on the previous financial year. The total for the customer-facing licensed industry in Great Britain, including reported lotteries, was £17.5 billion, up 4.4%.

The report uses returns submitted by licensed operators. Its geographical scope is Great Britain; these are not worldwide casino revenues.

What GGY actually measures

GGY broadly adds stakes and other directly related gambling income, then subtracts prizes or winnings. It is neither the total amount staked nor profit after the operator’s costs.

A simple illustration: £100 in stakes less £95 paid back produces £5 of yield, assuming no other relevant income. That arithmetic explains the measure; it does not describe an individual slot’s RTP or predict anyone’s next session.

What readers can take from this

The distinction matters when a revenue headline looks like a payout headline. A larger market does not establish that games are more generous, that withdrawals are faster, or that an individual operator treats customers better.

For a casino choice, the useful details remain the licence, withdrawal conditions and bonus restrictions. Keep the small print and your playing limits in view; a growing industry changes neither.
