South Korea's transnational-crime task force says three Korean suspects were arrested in the UAE over alleged illegal online gambling operations. Two — an alleged No. 2 and a software developer — were repatriated via Incheon on 14 October 2026. The combined scale of the two rings they are tied to is about 3.1 trillion won, or about $2.3bn at Korea JoongAng Daily's conversion. All three are suspects; none has been convicted.
Three Korean suspects in alleged illegal online gambling operations have been arrested in the United Arab Emirates, and two of them were brought back through Incheon International Airport on 14 October 2026, South Korea's government-wide Transnational Crime Special Response task force said, as reported by Yonhap. The task force, which brings together the National Police Agency, the National Intelligence Service and other agencies, worked with UAE authorities, who carried out the arrests under a joint operation codenamed Halak (Arabic for ruin or destruction). The two repatriated suspects are an alleged No. 2 in one ring and a software developer. The task force said the alleged ringleader will be repatriated as soon as possible after consultation with the UAE. All three are suspects; none has been convicted.

Two rings, about 3.1 trillion won combined
According to Yonhap, the sites run by the two rings the three suspects are tied to had a combined scale of about 3.1 trillion won, about $2.3bn at Korea JoongAng Daily's conversion. The 3.1 trillion won covers two separate rings.
One ring — the alleged ringleader and No. 2 — is accused of running illegal gambling sites worth about 2.6 trillion won from bases including the Philippines and Malaysia after fleeing Korea in 2016. Separately, the developer is linked to a different ring of about 500 billion won whose ringleader was arrested in the UAE and repatriated in July, according to Yonhap and SBS.
BetEast shirt advertising in 2016
According to Yonhap, the first ring advertised BetEast, a sports-betting site illegal under Korean law, on an overseas football team's kit and inside its stadium in 2016. Korea JoongAng Daily and iGaming Business identify the team as Swansea City, then in the English Premier League, which carried BetEast as its front-of-shirt sponsor that year.
