What happened
On 13 October, between about 17:50 and 18:50 CEST, Gamdom's hot wallets on five blockchains (Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, Tron and the XRP Ledger) sent more than $2.3m to five receiving wallets, according to FairGambling's wallet tracker. At least four of those wallets had never been used before. At 20:45 CEST Gamdom posted on X: "We're currently offline, will be back up and running soon."
Early on 14 October, Gamdom said it had detected a potential disk failure on one of its servers about 24 hours earlier, and while investigating found "an unauthorized connection on one of our automation servers". It took all of its systems offline. "User funds are safe," the statement said.
That evening Römer wrote on X: "we noticed a breach attacking our hot wallet system & we took measures to stop the drain, in total we lost just over $3m to the breach and secured other hot wallet funds to our cold wallets".
Gamdom announced its return on X at 02:34 CEST on 16 October. Later that day Gamdom said all bets placed on its in-house "originals" games during the maintenance period had been "paid out 2x", and that deposits made during the downtime had been credited.
Hot wallets, briefly
A hot wallet is a crypto address a casino keeps connected so it can pay withdrawals quickly. A cold wallet is kept offline and is far harder to reach. The convenience is also the weak point: anyone who gets into the systems that control a hot wallet can move its money. Römer says Gamdom moved the remaining hot-wallet funds into its cold wallets, which takes them out of reach of the systems that were breached.
FairGambling followed one Ethereum wallet that received about $1.2m from three Gamdom wallets and, within minutes, began swapping its USDT and USDC into DAI. The companies behind USDT and USDC can freeze their coins in a given wallet. DAI has no built-in freeze function.
Cryptopolitan compares the incident with Duelbits, which it reported went offline in September after a suspected hot-wallet private-key compromise, with losses estimated at $5.9m to $7m.
Two loss figures
Gamdom's own figure is "just over $3m". On-chain investigator vxdb puts the loss at $4.208m: about $2.2m on Ethereum-compatible networks, $965,000 on Solana, $668,000 in bitcoin and $375,000 on Tron, as reported by Cryptopolitan and Bitcoin.com.
FairGambling's tracker also showed Gamdom's monitored hot-wallet holdings falling from $10.5m on 12 October to about $76,000 on 13 October. 15M and Bitcoin.com both say that drop cannot be read as the amount stolen; Römer says the remaining hot-wallet funds were moved to cold wallets.
The restart offers
Gamdom's return post lists what it calls compensation for the downtime for "all players": leaderboard and "KOTH" competitions, a "Reload Restart", a 20% deposit bonus for existing users and a giveaway on X. A deposit bonus is credit tied to a new deposit, not a refund of anything lost, so read its terms in your account before opting in.
