These pages do not print a year for the first Book of Ra. They treat it as the earlier game.

Novomatic’s page for Book of Ra deluxe (MGD1T) calls that file the original 9-line, 5-reel deluxe version of the video slot classic. MGD1T means Multi-Gaminator deluxe 1T. The page prints 9 lines, 5 reels and volatility 3. That is not the 10-line file reviewed here.

In September 2008, Austrian Gaming Industries presented Book of Ra deluxe in Novomatic’s magazine The World of Gaming. The magazine calls it the new 10-line, 5-reel Coolfire II version of the classic. The same article says Coolfire I Gaminator cabinets had used a 9-line format and a 5-line format. The Super-V + Gaminator cabinet presented a 10-line format, and deluxe was one of the games in that mix.

Greentube’s Q1 2018 catalogue still separates the two sheets. Classic Book of Ra, game ID 176, is the 9-line game. Deluxe, game ID 110, is the 10-line game. Both print RTP 95.10% and 5 stars there. The Greentube game page says deluxe keeps the classic and increases the win lines.

Greentube is the online path. A 2015 Greentube flyer calls Greentube the global interactive business unit of Novomatic, and describes this 10-line game for online play. On 20 March 2025, Bernd Baumert, Greentube’s director of games production and operations, said Greentube is Novomatic’s digital division and that the early portfolio followed the land-based games. Players, he said, want a game they know from one channel on the other. Novomatic Romania’s Coolfire page lists the 10-line deluxe on Gaminator and Novostar cabinets. The same name is the online file.

2008 is the year that 10-line Coolfire II version was presented as new. It is not a printed year for the first Book of Ra.

Why players still open it

Greentube’s 2015 flyer calls Book of Ra deluxe the most popular slot of Novomatic, and a blue-chip game. That is the flyer’s wording in 2015. It is not a ranking for this year, and it does not place the game against other studios.

On 17 February 2026 Greentube published an interview with Florian Werner, managing director of DGGS. Asked why the game is still opened in Germany, he pointed to a long presence in land-based casinos, arcades and online play, and said that for many players there it was one of the first slots they met. He also named the Egypt theme and the free spins with an expanding symbol. That is one operator’s account of Germany. No floor count is printed.

Baumert, in the March 2025 Q&A, grouped Book of Ra Deluxe with Lucky Lady’s Charm Deluxe and Sizzling Hot Deluxe as Novomatic blue-chip games in the UK. He did not print a chart position for it. He said some newer Greentube mechanics had reached a top 10. Those are different games.

Novomatic kept building on the name. Its public slot list includes Book of Ra Magic, Book of Ra Magic Wheel, Book of Ra Plus, Book of Ra Mystic Fortunes, Book of Ra Temple of Gold, Book of Ra Treasure Scarabs and the Turbo file, Book of Ra Treasure Gods, Book of Ra PROLINK 2, and Book of Ra deluxe 6, beside this 10-line deluxe. Baumert named Cash Connection – Book of Ra and Cash Connection – Golden Book of Ra as further iterations. Each is a separate product.

Other studios later shipped the same published loop. Book of Dead is the clear example on this site. Play’n GO released it on 14 January 2016. Five reels, three rows, ten lines. The book is wild and scatter. Three or more books start ten free spins, and one special expands and can pay when those symbols are not next to each other. Legacy of Dead uses an expanding special in free spins as well. Its public page does not print an RTP. None of these sources says another studio licensed the maths. The visible pattern is the book, the ten free games, and the one expanding symbol.

Players still open deluxe for that free-spin round. It is a poor fit when a session needs small, frequent wins. Starburst has no free-spin round and a printed ceiling of 800×. Gonzo’s Quest prints a 41% hit frequency. Whether a bonus counts this game, and any stake cap, is the casino’s rule. Read the bonus section before you use it that way.

Symbols on the paytable

The Greentube page sets the game in Egyptian tombs. The title uses Ra as the name of the book. The catalogue does not write a myth. It names the pictures and the pays.

The pictures are an explorer, printed as Person, a mummy, a statue and a scarab, plus the ace, king, queen, jack and ten. The book is wild and scatter.

Five of a kind, as printed. The sheet does not label the unit. Do not read the explorer’s 5,000 as the round cap. The default max-win multiplier on the same page is 5,010×. The catalogue also prints pays for four and three of a kind and, on some symbols, for two.

The explorer is the character on Greentube’s artwork, and the highest picture pay on the sheet. The mummy, the statue and the scarab sit under that. The scarab is the beetle picture. The mummy and the statue are the tomb pictures the catalogue names. The ace, king, queen, jack and ten are card ranks. Their five-of-a-kind pays are the smaller ones.

The book is the feature key. It substitutes for the other symbols. Three or more, anywhere, start 10 free games. One special symbol is then chosen at random and can expand to cover its reel. Novomatic Romania’s Coolfire page says that symbol covers all three positions and pays on any position. The December 2025 rules file says the book does not substitute for it, and that the expanded symbol pays on positions that are not next to each other.

The rules do not print which symbols can be drawn as the special, or the odds of each draw. They do print the pay. An expanded explorer pays the explorer’s rate. An expanded ten pays the ten’s rate. The symbol on the paytable is the symbol those free spins are playing for.

How Book of Ra Deluxe plays

Five reels and three rows. The Q1 2018 catalogue sets the play type to lines, with a setting of 10, and marks the line count as adjustable. The December 2025 rules file says the same grid: 5 reels and 10 win lines. It also has a Lines control. If that button is greyed out, the line count cannot be changed on that build.

Wins start on the leftmost reel. Matching symbols have to sit next to each other on an active line. Only the highest win on each line is paid. Scatter wins are separate, and they pay in any position. The Book is both wild and scatter. On the Greentube game page it substitutes for the other symbols.

Free spins and the expanding symbol

The Greentube game page states the trigger. Three or more Book symbols anywhere on the reels start 10 free games. Before the round begins, one special symbol is selected at random. It stays the expanding symbol for that round.

The December 2025 rules file states the pay. After regular symbols are paid, the special expanding symbols may cover every position on their reel. They then pay like the ordinary symbol, including on positions that are not next to each other, on all lines in play. The Book still substitutes, but not for the special expanding symbol.

More Books during the round add free games. The rules file says three or more scatters do that. It does not print how many extra spins are added. Free games use the same bet as the spin that started them.

The official screenshot on the Greentube page shows free game 3 of 10, with Lines set to 10. That still matches the written trigger. It is not a second spec sheet.

Ten lines, and the original Book of Ra

The Greentube game page says deluxe keeps the classic Book of Ra and increases the win lines.

The same Q1 2018 catalogue lists the classic as Book of Ra™, game ID 176. It is 5 reels and 3 rows. The line setting is 9. RTP is 95.10%. Volatility is 5 stars. Hit frequency is 28%. The default max-win multiplier is 5,011×. The feature name is the same: free games with a special expanding symbol.

Deluxe is game ID 110, the 10-line file. In that catalogue its RTP is also 95.10%. Hit frequency is 29%. The default max-win multiplier is 5,010×. Novomatic’s September 2008 magazine calls it the new 10-line, 5-reel Coolfire II version of the classic.

The RTP gap against Book of Dead is a different comparison. Play’n GO prints 96.21% as that game’s studio default. That sits about one point above the 2018 deluxe catalogue figure, and further above the 94.26% rules file. Legacy of Dead is another expanding-symbol slot. Its public page does not print an RTP.

The gamble button

The official Greentube gameshot shows a Gamble button beside Paytable and Start. Lines on that still are set to 10.

The Q1 2018 catalogue does not describe a gamble. The December 2025 rules file for this 10-line game does not describe one either. Its buttons are Buy Bonus, Start, Total Bet, Lines, Auto, and the paytable.

Greentube does print a gamble on other Book of Ra deluxe products. The Win Ways Ante Bet rules describe a 50:50 gamble that can double a win. Red and black are the two choices. The maximum that can be bet in the gamble, at the current stake, is $500. The feature is not available during autoplay, or on a higher win. That PDF is a Win Ways game. It is not this 10-line slot. Do not copy its gamble rule across.

If the cabinet you open shows Gamble, use the paytable on that build. This review does not fill in a rule the 10-line file leaves out.

Who it suits

Volatility 5 stars is the top mark on the catalogue scale. Results come in larger swings, not a stream of small line hits. The 29% hit frequency is the 2018 file only. It is not a promise, and it is not printed on the 2025 rules file.

This suits a player who wants the expanding-symbol free games and can stop after a planned session. It is a poor fit when you need the smallest swings. Gonzo’s Quest prints a 41% hit frequency and a 2,200× max on the NetEnt sheet. Starburst has no free-spin round. Its printed ceiling is 800×, and Playin’s public card calls it medium. NetEnt’s own Starburst page does not print a volatility band.

The 5,010× figure is a catalogue default, not a target. The footnote on that page says a round can exceed the largest single win. Treat it as a printed number on a 2018 sheet.

Set a limit before you open the game. 18+. If gambling has stopped feeling like a pastime, use the tools on responsible play.

Bonus restrictions

Whether this slot counts at 100% toward wagering is a casino rule. It is not printed on the Greentube pages cited here. Read the bonus terms for the offer you claimed.

The December 2025 file adds a buy. It costs 100× the total bet and guarantees three scatters. Many bonuses ban a buy, or count it as the stake. At a €1 total bet the buy is €100, which already sits above a typical €5 max bet. Read feature buys and bonus terms before you use it on bonus funds.

Raising the stake to hunt the book is a common way a bonus is voided. Stay under the stated max bet. A lower RTP file makes a long wagering requirement more expensive. The 94.26% rules file is one example already in print.
